COMPASS
What is COMPASS?
- A computerized, untimed, multiple choice assessment in English, math, and reading used to determine the courses in which you are required to enroll. COMPASS should be taken seriously as it will determine the course and sequence of classes that must be taken.
- Mandatory Placement: To benefit students, KCTCS initiated a mandatory placement policy which requires students to enroll in courses indicated by your COMPASS scores.
Do I need to take COMPASS?
- Yes, if you haven’t taken the ACT or if your ACT scores are below 18 in English or math or reading, or if no college credit has been earned in these subject areas.
- No, if your ACT score is 18 or higher in English, 18 or higher in reading, and 18* or higher in math (*exceptions may occur with math). Note: Exempt only in each subject with 18 or higher.
- No, if credit has been earned in college-level courses in math, English and reading
Note: ACT scores, college transcripts, or grades are necessary for proof of exemption. “Student” copies may be brought to the Testing Coordinator in the Success Center in the on-campus Sullivan Technology Center.
