Keyboarding 6 hours
In this introductory course students will learn the basics of keyboarding. This course is good for students who use the hunt and peck method, haven't typed in years or have never typed at all. Students will learn keyboarding concepts in the context of word processing. They will work practice exercises and word groups to enhance keyboarding skills.
Introduction to PCs 6 hours
This is a beginning class designed to introduce the student to the personal computer. Computer terminology will be discussed along with a hands-on introduction to Windows 98 and managing files. Students will also be introduced to Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
Introduction to Windows 6 hours
This class covers basic Windows concepts and skills. Students will get started with Windows, work with the desktop, and use online Help, My Computer and Windows Explorer. Students also will perform hard disk maintenance, perform floppy disk maintenance and work with shortcuts. Students will use the Control Panel, the Find Utility and Windows 98 Accessories.
Introduction to Microsoft Word 6 hours
This class is an introduction to basic word processing techniques. Students get started in Word and create, print and edit documents. Students also move, copy and format text, paragraphs and documents. Finally, students use formatting features AutoCorrect and AutoText and proof documents.
Intermediate Microsoft Word 6 hours
This course reviews the basic concepts and features of Word and teaches intermediate word processing skills. Students use headers and footers; create, use and format tables; and work with columns. Students also use pictures, graphic elements, worksheets and charts in documents and work with envelopes and labels.
Advanced Microsoft Word 6 hours
In Advanced Word students create data documents, main documents, letters, mailing labels, and catalogs. Students also use macros, sort information, create forms, insert form fields, modify forms, create help messages and use online forms.
Introduction to Microsoft Excel 6 hours
Students will learn to create spreadsheets, enter simple formulas, and create graphs in this hands-on class.
Intermediate Microsoft Excel 6 hours
In this class students learn to utilize many of the software's time-saving and enhancement features. Students use names, work with advanced functions and formatting features and use special format and print options. Students also explore time-saving techniques and features, such as consolidating and linking information from multiple workbooks, using templates and macros to automate tasks, and importing and exporting data. Students also use protection features and work with charts.
Excel Database Management & Analysis 6 hours
In this course students will work with the database features in Excel. This course will teach students to sort database data; use database functions; use filters, automated features, and PivotTables. Students will also modify PivotTable data; use advanced data analysis to audit worksheets; work with scenarios; and create custom reports.
Introduction to Microsoft Access 6 hours
This class teaches basic database concepts and reviews the features of Access. Students will design databases, get started with Access and create databases. Students will also work with Access tables, set field properties, change and customize tables. Finally, students will create and work with queries, create reports, and import data into Access.
Intermediate Microsoft Access 6 hours
This class reviews basic database concepts and teaches intermediate database skills. Students will work with forms, enhance forms and reports, and insert objects into forms and reports. Students will also locate data, use macros, and use criteria in queries. Finally, students will work with values in queries, use calculations in queries, and work with charts.
Advanced Microsoft Access 6 hours
The Advanced Access class covers the application development features of the Access database software. Information to be covered includes designing applications, creating advanced controls, creating dialog boxes, using macros, working with custom toolbars, creating menus and shortcuts, creating custom switchboards, enhancing applications, testing applications and establishing basic security.
Introduction to Microsoft PowerPoint 6 hours
Students will learn to create and edit PowerPoint presentations, format text, and print presentations. Students also work with proofing tools and objects, use WordArt and clipart, build slide shows and place slide shows.
Intermediate Microsoft PowerPoint 6 hours
In Intermediate PowerPoint, students will learn advanced techniques to use in slide presentations. Students will learn to work with slide outlines, create charts and tables, create organization charts, and add multimedia elements. Students will also work with color schemes and templates, animate text and objects, link slides, prepare presentations, and save presentations in other formats.
Maintaining Your PC 16 hours
This comprehensive course will provide you with the level of knowledge you need to install, upgrade and maintain your PC-compatible system and hardware. The extensive hands-on labs will teach you how to perform the 24 steps to keeping your PC in top working order. Learn how to disassemble and assemble a PC-compatible system and identify each major component of the computer and how to use diagnostic software to troubleshoot your system.
Introduction to Quickbooks 6 hours
This course will teach the basics of using Quickbooks, the most popular computerized accounting and business management package. Students will learn to set up accounts, maneuver in Quickbooks, customize reports, print checks, invoices, mailing labels and more. Finally, students will learn how to set up basic payroll information.
Introduction to the Internet 6 hours
In this introductory class you will learn how to surf the net using various search engines, how to locate web sites using internet addresses, set bookmarks, print web documents and send e-mail.
Creating A Web Page 6 hours
In this class you will learn the basics of creating your own web page using Microsoft's FrontPage. Topics include creating backgrounds, adding graphics and animation and creating links.
Desktop Publishing With Microsoft Word 6 hours
Learn the advanced formatting features of Word in this class. Students will learn to design and create professional quality documents, including letterheads, resumes, awards certificates, flyers, invitations, brochures and newsletters.
Conducting Business on The Internet 3 hours
Over $15 billion in business is transacted on-line every year. Learn how you can market your product using the Internet. Discover the secrets of electronic commerce and the pros and cons of the on-line business directories. Discover how big companies use the Internet to service their customers better and how you can apply these techniques to your own business.
Business Financial Applications Using Excel 3 hours
This course will introduce the student to how Excel can be used for common business applications. Topics include markup, trade and cash discounts, depreciation, inventory, payroll, simple and compound interest, bank discounting, finance charges and APR, annuities and amortization, charting and stocks and bonds.
Basic Networking Concepts 6 hours
This class will introduce the user to basic networking concepts such as LANS, WANS, TCP/IP and Basic Networking Protocols. The class will be in a lecture/question and answer format and will include a list of web sites for further self-study.
Cisco Networking Academy
The Cisco Networking Academy's four course curriculum that builds networking and internetworking skills by providing students with real "hands-on" experience. Henderson Community College partnered with Cisco Systems, Inc. to become a Regional Networking Academy. As a Regional Academy, HCC plays an important role in providing up to date information technology training. Skills necessary to be competitive in this Internet economy. With Cisco trained faculty and a state-of-the-art networking laboratory, HCC can provide a high quality training curriculum that prepares students for the Cisco Certified Networking Associate (CCNA) certification.
